Just a Thought

I was teaching my high school students a bible study recently and I as usual got off of topic and somehow wound up addressing cloning and abortion.  I am not certain how we got on the subject but it was brought up to me are those kids saved, you know the unborn ones.  Wow!

I didn’t even really ponder it I just blurted out an answer of Yep I believe that they are.

So I had to justify my answer, you cannot leave such a profound question at a yep.  So a pondered it for a minute and it came to me.  When was your name written in the book of life, we all know the answer that everyone’s name was contained in the book of life at the beginning of the creation.  Yes even before we were conceived by  our parents (or any other means) God knew us, he knew us by name.

But aren’t we born sinful?  Why yes we are.  We are born sinful and that is the key we must be born to be in sin, therefore I can only conclude that if we are not yet born then we have not been given the opportunity to sin.  You see the womb is a wonderful thing, a mother provides all of their child’s needs, warmth, food, hydration etc…   The unborn child has all of its needs meant and has no reason to sin.  Even in cases of malnutrition or poverty  a mother’s body will take from its own reserves to provide for the unborn child.

Well what about the sins of the father being passed on to the third and fourth generation? Good question.  The bible indicates that God knew us before conception and that we are born sinful, it does not indicate that we are conceived sinful, God had a complete understanding of the process and would have indicated that but instead the wording Born was used.  God makes no mistakes in his choice of words and we must pay close attention to that to keep us on track.  If we were conceived sinful our name could not be written in the book of life to be blotted out with our rejection of Christ instead God would have told us that he would write our name in the book of life when we accepted Christ as our savior but he worded it that we would be blotted out with the rejection of the savior.

This would also indicate that a child conceived through a sinful act is not sinful itself until the child has actually been born. Remember that God tells us that a child is always a blessing and should be viewed as that no matter when, where, why or even how it has been brought into existence.  So even if man is playing God, God knew that child and allowed the child to be conceived.  Without God’s design, interaction and approval no life would exist.

So what about a clone?  They are not created by God but created through a process conceived by man.  Interesting point but I believe that it is purely semantics.  God knew before hand everyone that would be created no matter what the creative process was and therefore their names are also contained in the book of life before their creation no matter how brief their existence would be.  I had to address stem cell research (embryonic)  That is a process that creates through artificial means a human embryo (child) and allows it to live for a period of 5 days and then harvests the stem cells thus killing the life form (child).

Just a quick reminder, our names are blotted out of the book of life if we do not accept Jesus as our Savior.  You do not have to be baptized, but that is always nice, you must accept Christ as your savior and then you are saved, remember that Jesus told us that however believes in me will be saved.  Jesus made no other requirements, Believe and be Saved.  What a beautiful thing that is!

Anyhow it is my impression that I have shared we will not know for certain until God calls us to be his and takes us home.

God Bless.
